SIA Newsletter 7 – Secondary

Dear SIA Community, Welcome to our latest edition of the school newsletter! As we embark on another exciting fortnight and prepare for Ramadan, we are thrilled to share with you the wonderful achievements, upcoming events, and important updates from our vibrant school community. Your continued support and involvement play a crucial role in our learners’ success, and we look forward to celebrating many more milestones together. The annual school Fiesta took place last weekend alongside SIA’s first MUN Conference. Both events were very successful and showcased the incredible talents and dedication of our learners. The Fiesta was filled with vibrant performances and engaging activities that brought our community together. Meanwhile, the MUN Conference provided a platform for learners to demonstrate their debating skills, global awareness, and leadership qualities. We are immensely proud of everyone’s hard work in order to make these events happen and the participation of all! Big thanks to Mr. Robert for the MUN and Ms. Meera and the Fiesta committee for all their efforts which enrich our school. Please click here for MUN and FIESTA pictures. Further successes recently came with the SIA Sports Teams winning a multitude of trophies and accolades in the EISSA games last week. We are incredibly proud of all the teams that represented our school and more details about this are further in this week’s newsletter. This week, Ms. Noorhan held an interactive parents’ workshop on “AI and How to Harness.” It was a superb session and was very well received by those who attended. We will look at running this again later in the year. Continuing our theme of curriculum events for parents, we are scheduled to run our next session on Wednesday, 18th February, which will be on “Phonics and Read, Write, Inc.” Ms. Esther and Ms. Daisy are hosting this, and it will no doubt be very popular. Therefore, if you wish to learn more about the SIA approach to teaching your child phonics, please sign up on the link below. Curriculum Coffee Morning Schedule A polite reminder that all learners should be wearing the correct SIA uniform issued by the school. Recently, we have seen learners mixing and matching PE with school attire or dressing in different coloured trousers and jackets. Our SIA uniform promotes equality by reducing peer pressure and bullying related to clothing choices. It fosters a sense of community and school pride and simplifies morning routines for families. Uniforms also prepare our learners for professional dress codes in the future. Please help us by reinforcing this at home and ensuring school-issued uniforms are worn every day. Important notice of date change! Following feedback from parents, we have decided to reschedule the KS3 Extravaganza “From Vision to Expression” to Thursday, 27th February. Doors open at 10:30am with the Extravaganza commencing at 11:00 am. The overwhelming feedback from parents is that Thursday is a preferable date compared to the original Saturday evening. As this is the first time we will be undertaking this event, and we require both learner and parental engagement, we feel this is a much better option. We will welcome your feedback after the event. Finally, I would like to share the short podcast below. A recurring discussion point with parents is about the use of social media and how we can monitor this with our children. The attached podcast will hopefully give some suggestions regarding TikTok and how this can be managed. nationalcollege.com/podcasts/what-parents-and-educators-need-to- know-about-tiktok Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Together, we can ensure a nurturing and enriching environment for our learners. Have a wonderful weekend! Dear SIA Community, We hope this letter finds you well and you are looking forward to the weekend. As a community we were excited about our recent house event that unfolded with great enthusiasm and vigour. Under the guidance of Miss Heather, Ayesha Lauren, and Rosie, our house event aimed to ignite a spark of competition and camaraderie among our learners, inspiring them to earn more house points through active participation and teamwork. It gives us immense pleasure to share with you the highlights of this memorable occasion. The event was a tapestry of excitement, featuring six captivating stations meticulously designed to challenge the VAA’s of agility and teamwork of our participants. From the limbo, demanding precision and flexibility, to the blind ball basket, which required utmost focus and coordination, each station offered a unique test of skill and collaboration. We were delighted to witness our fab teachers wholeheartedly embracing the spirit of the event, actively participating and earning house points along the way. What truly set the event aglow was the electric atmosphere of anticipation and camaraderie that permeated throughout from the start of the day. As teachers and learners alike engaged in friendly competition, it was evident that our shared commitment to fostering a vibrant house culture was stronger than ever. The highlight of the day for me was undoubtedly came during the Three-Legged Race, where teachers showcased not only their competitive spirit but also their unwavering dedication to nurturing a sense of community within our school. It was a moment that encapsulated the essence of our collective efforts in building our thriving SIA team. In EYFS, there has been lots of exciting learning it has been buzzing every time I have walked through. In FS1, our little ones have been immersed in creativity (Creative Carla) as they explored different animal habitats through drawing. Using the whiteboard and pen, they have been busy sketching various environments, demonstrating their imaginative prowess. Additionally, learners have been constructing their own modes of transport to ferry animals and food around the farm, showcasing their ingenuity and problem-solving skills. FS2 has been buzzing with excitement this week as we initiated the transition to Year 1. Learners had the unique opportunity to experience a lesson taught by a Year 1 teacher in an actual Year 1 classroom. Their behaviour and engagement was exemplary, making the transition both smooth and enjoyable for all involved. In Years 1 to 3, we had the pleasure of celebrating our High-Performance Learning (HPL) learners of the week. It’s truly heartening to witness the empathy and flexible thinking displayed by our learners, not only within their own year groups but also across the school community. Their consistent display of creativity and adaptability in lessons is a testament to their growth and achievements, and we couldn’t be prouder of their efforts. Meanwhile, in Years 4 to 6, our learners had an enriching experience with the visit of the book fair. It was heartwarming to see their enthusiasm for reading as they explored the wide array of books available. Additionally, KS1 learners were treated to a special visit by Hilda Youssef, the author of ‘Snowy and Zoey,’ who read her book to them. Witnessing the empathy and joy our learner experienced during this session was truly inspiring. Finally, In Secondary learners engaged in an HPL Skills Quiz this week, designed to reinforce their understanding of our Values, Attitudes, and Attributes (VAA’s) and Advanced Cognitive Performance characteristics (ACP’s). Through collaboration between learners and teachers, the quiz provided an opportunity for everyone to deepen their knowledge and appreciation of these important concepts. On the sporting front, our Girls Basketball team from the PE department showcased their dedication and teamwork as they prepared to hit the court in the EISSA Basketball competition. Their commitment to honing their skills and supporting one another exemplifies the spirit of collaboration and perseverance that we strive to instill in all our learners. As always, we extend our gratitude to you, our supportive parent community, for your ongoing partnership in nurturing the holistic development of our learners. Together, we continue to create a vibrant and inclusive learning ‘eco system’ where everyone can thrive. #BeTheBestYouCanBe #HPL #Housecompetition #preppy.principal   Take care, Mr James | SIA Principal Read More
