SIA Newsletter 10 – Secondary

Dear SIA Community,

I hope this letter finds you well and that you have had a lovely weekend. I am writing this letter looking back at the amazing Sports Days which took place last week; from the Foundation Stage one on Monday, through to the Primary events and finishing with a wonderful Secondary Sports Day on Thursday.

Beyond the physical benefits of sports, our Sports Days provide a platform for showcasing and developing High Performance Learning (HPL) skills. Our learners utilised a broad spectrum of personal and interpersonal attributes that contributed to their overall well-being. These skills include physical fitness, teamwork, leadership, communication, resilience, adaptability, and sporting behaviour – it was lovely when a learner’s peers in Year 2 gave them a huge cheer and a massive round of applause for completing the egg and spoon race and when two competitors gave each other a big hug at the end of the relay race.

The Sports Days were also a chance for our learners to display leadership and responsibility. Sports Days involved our learners taking on leadership roles, whether as team captains, event organisers, or referees. These responsibilities instilled a sense of leadership and accountability in our learners and is was lovely to see the younger learners responding to the direction and encouraging words of our learners leaders. Successful sports days serve as an ideal setting for learners to display and cultivate these essential life skills.

Of course, the physical aspect of sports days cannot be overlooked. Engaging in physical activities promotes a healthy lifestyle and enhances overall well-being. Regular exercise has been linked to improved mental health, increased focus, and better academic performance. We hope that the Sports Days last week have given everyone a boost and will encourage some of our learners to maybe join an athletics team or just to get out and be active. Thank you very much for those of you who made it along to show your support; it was amazing to see Foundation Stage parents dressed in their child’s team colours!
